About Prawns Fry
Prawns fry is a quick, simple and easy starter recipe that can be made in under 30 minutes.
The crispy, sweet prawns are marinated in basic minimal spices and herbs and shallow fried.
At home, we often make this to go along with nonveg meals like chicken curry, and chicken sukka.
The recipe is so very simple yet so much flavourful! It’s indeed an absolute treat for seafood lovers.
This tava-fried kolambi is a classic recipe that is best for beginners & bachelors.
Not only is this prawn fry tasty but it’s also rich in omega-3 fatty acids.
lngredients
Prawns / Kolambi – I have used 250 grams of medium-sized frozen prawns from Fresh To Home which are already de-veined.
If you are using frozen then thaw it before you start marinating them.
If you are using fresh prawns, make sure to de-shell & de-vein them and wash them thoroughly under water.
Spices & Herbs – We will require, ginger-garlic paste, red chilli powder, turmeric powder, garam masala powder and salt.
Lemon Juice – Lemon juice gives a nice flavour to this dish. You can add tamarind pulp instead of lemon juice or vinegar.
Flours – I have used only rice flour here, but you can also add semolina (rava) which makes these prawns more crunchy.
Oil – We will need 3 tablespoons of oil to shallow fry

Variations
For the vegetarian option, use potatoes, sweet potatoes, yam or eggplant slices instead of prawns. Just skip lemon juice for veg option.
Instead of using only rice flour for coating, you may also add some rava/sooji/semolina that will make it more crunchy.
Serving Suggestions
Serve them as a starter or appetizer with onions and green spicy chutney along with solkadi or as a side dish with non-veg meals or simple dal rice.

Prawns cook quickly so do not overcook them as they will get chewy. The cooking time depends on the size of the prawns. I used medium-sized prawns with took just 5-7 minutes to cook.
