Bread Halwa | Bread Pudding Indian Style

Bread halwa is a delicious Indian dessert made with white or brown bread along with ghee, sugar and nuts.
This is a beginner-friendly, easy-to-make vegetarian sweet dish that can be served during special occasions or as a dessert post-meal.

Ingredients
  

  • 8 Bread Slices
  • 2 tablespoons Cashewnuts, roughly chopped
  • 2 tablespoons Almonds, roughly chopped
  • 2 tabelspoons Raisins
  • 6 tbsp Ghee (Clarified Butter)
  • 1/2 cup Sugar (adjust as per your preference)
  • 1 cup Full-Fat Milk
  • 1/2 tsp Caramond Powder

Instructions
 

  • Heat 1 tbsp ghee, add roughly chopped cashewnuts & almonds and saute for 30 seconds.
  • Add raisins and saute till nuts are lightly golden brown in colour.
  • Once done, keep them aside.
  • Coarsely blend the bread slices in a blender.
  • Heat 1 tbsp ghee,add the blended bread crumbs and roast till they turn light golden brown. Once done, keep it aside.

Let's Make The Halwa

  • Heat 5 tbsp ghee, add the roasted breadcrumbs and saute for just a minute.
  • Add sugar and mix well.
  • Add half cup milk and mix well. Now add rest of the milk and mix it again.
  • Cover the pan for about 2 minutes for the sugar to dissolve completely
  • Add cardamon powder and roasted nuts (keep some for garnishing)
  • If you feel halwa is getting too dry then add 1/4th cup water or 3 tbsp ghee instead.
  • Cover and let the halwa get nice steamed up for 2 minutes.
  • Bread halwa is ready.
  • Transfer into the serving dish , garnish with roasted nuts and serve warm.
